Rerouting Referrals
If the original referral recipient cannot see the patient OR the patient does not want to go to that provider, you can simply change the referral recipient by rerouting the referral. This eliminates the need to start a referral from scratch.
Who can reroute a referral?
- Providers, Referral Coordinators, and Practice Admins can reroute referrals as long as the referral sent date is less than 90 days AND there is no appointment date scheduled.
- If you are the recipient of the referral, meaning someone sent the referral to you, you will be unable to reroute the referral.
Where can I reroute a referral?
- Referrals can be rerouted on both the web and mobile application. Keep in mind that only providers have access to the mobile application.
How do I reroute a referral?
- First, go to the referral tab in the mobile app or web
- Select the patient for whom you would like to reroute the referral
- Please note, you can only reroute referrals that were sent by you or your practice. You cannot reroute referrals received by you or your practice.
- Click on the "Reroute" button in the top right of the referral details page
- You can reroute a referral more than once.
- Selecting "reroute" will take you to the provider search page where you can select another provider or practice for the referral
- Upon selecting a new provider or practice for the referral, the rerouting referral review screen will show
- When you've reviewed the referral and are ready to send it, select the "Send" button
- After the referral is rerouted we will display the new recipient in the referral dashboard. When you click into the referral details page, we will show you the original and revised recipients, so you can keep track of which referrals were rerouted and to whom.
- The rerouted referral will appear as canceled in the original recipient's dashboard. In addition, an email notification will be sent letting the original referral recipient know the referral was canceled.
- A text message is sent to the patient to let them know the referral has been sent to another provider. For the patient's convenience, we include the office address and phone number.
- The new referral recipient will receive the same notifications they do when they are sent a normal referral (not rerouted).
